Exclusive Limited Editions
Exclusive Limited Edition by Wolford Guitars means
- Small run only, not exceeding 12 in total
- Each guitar numbered from I to IV (Artist Proof) or 1/8 to 8/8 (Ltd Ed)
- Each guitar delivered with a Certificate of Authenticity signed and dated
- Keeping items desirable but affordable
It means that due to limited availability, once a specific Exclusive Limited Edition is SOLD OUT, it's too late....they're gone. While we do build and offer one-off specials, we purposefully avoid bespoke commissioned instruments as nothing can replace the benefits of "trying before you buy". While large companies may offer pseudo limited editions running into hundreds and thousands, we believe that our Exclusive Limited Editions really deserve this label.
Q- Why not label the guitars sequentially from 1 to 12?
A- Because on occasion we may only do 4 guitars in a specific style, these will be labeled Artist Proof API APII APIII APIV. If we make a further set of 8, they will be 1/8, 2/8, 3/8, 4/8 ,5/8 ,6/8 ,7/8 and 8/8. If we make 12 in total, we can use up the full alocations of AP and Ltd Ed.
Q- Whose Idea was this?
A- No ours. Back in the late 19th early 20th Century, production mass manufacturing was increasingly taking over from smaller workshops. Countries such a France for example saw the need to impose limits in mumbers to differenciate between a mass market product and small production of "object d'art. Individual artists would also sometimes impose limits. This was most obvious for examples with Artistic bronzes.Typically the artist would be allowed to produce up to 4 casts as Artist Proofs for himself, family and friends, before starting the numbered castings for the retail Edition.
Similar systems still apply even to this day. In photography for example, a French photographer recently may print up to 30 "Works of Art" for sale at a preferential low sale tax reserved for artworks, while any further prints from the same source image are subject to the normal full rate of sales tax.
